Hiring · Hyderabad · freelance, per visit
We are hiring qualified machine inspectors
Excavator and backhoe mechanics with five years or more on the tools. Three to four hours a visit, paid the same day. Keep your job — take the visits that suit you.
01 · The work
You grade the machine. Nobody edits you.
A buyer is about to spend twenty-five lakh on a machine he has seen for forty minutes. We are paid before the visit, by him, to find out what it actually is. That is the whole job.
It is not a sales role and it never becomes one. We hold no stock and take no commission from a seller on a machine we inspected for a buyer, so there is nobody standing behind you hoping for a kinder grade. Three to four hours on the machine, then your findings.
- Cold-start a machine you have never seen and listen to it properly
- Time every hydraulic function against the OEM specification, and measure cylinder drift over five minutes
- Measure undercarriage — grouser height, link pitch, roller and idler flange — and express each as percentage of life remaining
- Walk the structure: boom foot, cylinder ears, stick nose, track frame. Find the ground-back weld and the fresh paint over it
- Read the hour meter against the wear on the pedals, the seat and the pins, and say so plainly when the two disagree
- Photograph to a fixed schedule of 62 frames, every defect twice — close, and in context
- Write what you found, including what you could not check and why
The terms, plainly
Same day means same day. Not month end, not on our collection, not after the client has paid us. It is a written term of the engagement, and it matters more than any rate we could print here.
02 · The bar
Who this is for
Five years or more on hydraulic excavators or backhoe loaders
Dealer workshop, OEM service, a large rental fleet or a serious independent shop. Time on the tools, not time in a service office.
You can diagnose without a laptop
Electronic diagnostics help when you have the machine's software. In a seller's yard on a Sunday you will not, and the machine still has to be graded.
Your own hand tools and a measuring habit
Depth gauge, steel rule, straight edge, infrared thermometer, torch. We supply the protocol and the photography standard, not your toolbox.
A smartphone and a WhatsApp habit
The 62 photographs are half the report. If your photographs are dark and out of focus, the report is worth less no matter how good the diagnosis was.
Enough English or Telugu to write findings down
Field notes may be in Telugu, Hindi or English. We do the typing and the formatting. We do not do the observing.
You are willing to write down what you find
This is the whole job, and it is the reason some good mechanics are wrong for it. A man who softens a grade because the seller was friendly cannot do this work.
03 · What you get
What we commit to, in writing
Paid the same day, in full, every time
Not at month end, not on our collection, not after the client pays. This is a written rule and it is the entire retention strategy.
A fair rate for three to four hours, agreed before you start
The rate depends on the machine class, the distance and the type of visit, and we settle it with you directly before the first job — not after it. Travel beyond 100 km is covered on top.
The trade test is paid, whether or not we go on to work together
Your afternoon has a value. We pay for it before we know whether we want you.
You keep your job
This is freelance, per visit. Most of the bench work weekends and days off. We ask what you can take, not for your week.
The written right to refuse us
The engagement gives you the right to refuse any instruction that would change a grade. If you say D, it goes out as D. Nobody at MACHINEGRADE can overrule a measurement.
Your name on the report
The inspector who did the work is named in it. Over a few hundred machines that record is yours as much as ours.
04 · How it goes
Five steps, and you are paid at step three
01
You write, or you message
A resume by email, or four lines on WhatsApp. Machines, years, workshops, area. We reply the same day — including when the answer is no.
02
A phone call, twenty minutes
Three or four real questions about machines you have actually worked on. Not an interview in any formal sense. You will know inside five minutes whether this is for you.
03
The trade test — one machine, one afternoon
You inspect a real machine while we watch how you work. Paid on the day, whether or not it goes any further.
04
The protocol, and two visits alongside
The grading standard, the 62-photograph schedule and the report format. Your first two visits are done with us present, so the standard is transferred rather than described.
05
The engagement, in writing
Rates, same-day payment, confidentiality, and your written right to refuse any instruction that would change a grade. Signed before the first paid job, not after.
05 · Categories
If you know a machine we do not yet cover, write anyway
We grade crawler excavators and backhoe loaders because those are the mechanics on the bench. Road equipment, concrete plant, cranes and crushing are not covered — and the honest reason is that a hydraulic excavator man cannot competently grade a mobile crane.
A category opens the week its inspector is found, and not one day earlier. So if you are a pavers-and-rollers man, or you have spent fifteen years on crushing plant, you are not applying to an opening. You are the opening.
Categories we would open tomorrow
- Pavers, rollers and compactors
- Transit mixers and batching plants
- Mobile and crawler cranes
- Jaw and cone crushers, screens
- Combine and sugarcane harvesters
06 · Questions
What mechanics actually ask us
Do I have to leave my current job?
No, and we would rather you did not. This is freelance work paid per visit, usually three to four hours. Most of the bench are employed mechanics who take a visit on a day off or a Sunday. Tell us how many you can take a month and we will not push past it.
How much do you pay, and when?
We discuss the rate with you directly, once we have spoken — it depends on the machine class, the distance and the type of visit. What does not vary is when: the same day the work is done, in full, by UPI or bank transfer. Not at month end, not after the client pays us.
What is the trade test?
One machine, one afternoon, with us watching how you work rather than testing what you can recite. We pay you for it whether or not we go on to work together, because your afternoon has a value before we know whether we want you.
What if my grade upsets the client?
That is our problem, not yours. The engagement gives you the written right to refuse any instruction that would change a grade. If you measure D, it goes out as D. Nobody here can overrule a measurement — a desk that softens grades has nothing to sell.
I work on cranes, pavers or crushers, not excavators. Should I still write?
Yes. We only grade categories where we have a mechanic competent in that category — a hydraulic excavator man cannot honestly grade a mobile crane, and we will not pretend otherwise. Those categories open the week their inspector is found, so if you are that person, you are the reason the category exists.
Do I need a diploma or a certificate?
Not required. An ITI or diploma is welcome, but five years on the tools with a hand that knows what a worn slew bearing feels like counts for more here. The trade test settles it either way.
How do I apply if I do not have a typed resume?
Message on WhatsApp instead. Tell us the machines you know, how many years, which workshops or fleets, and your area. That is the whole application. A photograph of a handwritten page is perfectly acceptable.
Will you contact my current employer?
Not without asking you first, and not before a conversation has gone somewhere. We know how this trade works.
07 · Apply
Four lines is a complete application
The machines you know, years on the tools, where you have worked, and your area. A typed resume is welcome and is not required — a photograph of a handwritten page is perfectly acceptable.
We reply same day, including when the answer is no. Nobody is left wondering.
Two ways, both read by the same person
Include in either: the machines you know, years on the tools, the workshops or fleets you have worked in, the area you live in, and which days you could take a visit.
We use what you send only to consider you for this work. We do not pass it on, and we do not contact a current employer without asking you first. See privacy.
